OfficeWorks Chirnside

Recently landed myself a position at a group interview for the new OfficeWorks store scheduled to open at the end of next month.  Group interview went positively and I was asked to return for a 2:1 interview which is rather exciting.  Could really use the money right now, really suffering from a lack of shifts at my current workplace. :(

Finding that new job…

It has been a great 3 years at GO-LO Lilydale...  But recently I decided it was time to move on, on to something a little more geared towards my personal interests.  And that is technology, so what better way to do this than to apply at Dick Smith, RetraVision, Harvey Norman, JB Hi-Fi and OfficeWorks?  It began with a job interview at RetraVision 2 weeks after handing out my initial resumes (I suited up just to hand out resumes also).  The interview went positively and I was promised a call within a few days...  Much to my dismay (yet not surprise), the call never came.  I had fellow colleagues suggest I call RetraVision to ask just how I went and get clarification, however; I declined.  If the manager truly wanted me, he would have called within a few days like he said and not go over 2 weeks without a single word.  I don't want to work for someone of such an inconsiderate nature, it's not the corporate culture in which I wish to immerse myself in.

Harvey Norman was starting to look more and more favourable as I knew old respected employees of the Tech department and had developed the business portal which many of the staff may have (or still do) use(d), this includes the manager.  I plan to speak to the manager in person following my confirmation of performance from my OfficeWorks group interview.  Earlier I received a call from Katie who conducted a short phone interview with me and invited me to the Chadstone store next Wednesday for a group interview, fantastic!  Day off school, chance to attain work at a brand new OfficeWorks with new staff selling computers/printers and furniture.  This couldn't be timed better considering I'm making a third of what I once earned per week from my current job at GO-LO which isn't enough for me to live a very enjoyable lifestyle now that I have petrol to pay for, phone bills, web hosting, car rego and insurance...

It leaves me with very little money to spend freely unfortunately.  So hopefully my group interview goes well, and I hope to make a huge impression should I get the job, in order to move up as fast as possible. :)

Meditation, 10 Hours sleep and a solid breakfast is a recipe for a good day

The past 1-2 months I've found myself skipping breakfast just for the extra 20 minutes in bed, staying up until 12:30am to stare at a rather uneventful News Feed on Facebook followed by an entire day (zombified) at school.  It wasn't fun for me, it wasn't particularly fun for my peers.  But following Saturday night's happenings, I've decided I'll start going to bed no later than 10pm, getting out of bed early enough to shower, clean my room and eat a proper breakfast then attack the day at school with a calm mind.  Today I was far happier and alert than most other days, I hope I was a little more pleasant to be around. :)

Alcohol = bad

I learned a valuable lesson today (after being told the story from friends/family), that not only should you avoid drinking on an empty stomach but also avoid taking more alcohol than you actually plan to drink.  Truth of the matter is, if it's there: you'll probably drink it after your first few kick in.  Unfortunately, me, my invincible self was sporting 2 and a half bottles of Jimmy, one I intended to give my mate for his 18th birthday...  I can't even remember leaving Paul's house to actually go to the party, there's simply a massive gap in my memory until I woke up in bed, hair filled with vomit and blood, spew on my clothes, piss on the floor and an unhappy mother standing in the doorway.  I think I'm going to do everybody (including my bank) a favour and avoid drinks for the next couple of weeks.

Overplaying songs

Often, a song will hit me hard and find itself on constant repeat...  But it leaves me with 2 options.  Option A: Overplay it and get sick of it; or Option B: Play it occasionally and listen to less awesome music.  I think at one point we all have this dilemma, solved by throwing it into a playlist and occasionally switching back to the song every 20-30 minutes.

MTG Score

Just thought I'd put up the source for my basic Magic: The Gathering Windows Phone 7 score application.  It's my first attempt at an app and took me 2-3 hours of tweaking and stuffing around.  The result?  I've got the code below and I'll include a few screenshots also.

Ohai interwebs!

Ohai, my name's Shane and I'm starting this blog as I wish to get random ideas and opinions out there for others to (perhaps) enjoy or learn from.  I'm always open to constructive criticism.  Another reason for creating this blog was to create a place in which I can communicate ideas/concepts for desktop/phone/web applications and even provide demonstrations regarding the various departments where possible.

I hope you enjoy, I plan to update this blog regularly.
